Happy Birthday to me!!

Today is my 27th birthday. It's been a pretty good day despite being at work. I had pizza logs for lunch and Sarah sang "Happy Birthday" to me. Barring a blizzard, I plan to be down in West Hickory tomorrow.

Lots of work to do, so I'll end this here.

Happy Birthday to me!

Crank and The Covenant

Last night Jeff and I rented some movies and got pizza from the pizza place by Beefeater's. First we watched The Covenant. Jeff had heard good things about it, and I had heard bad, so I wasn't expecting too much. The movie was somewhere between okay and pretty good. If it was a video game and I was on X-Play, I'd give it a 3 out of 5. The plot was simple, but it had some good special effects. I thought at times they could have done more with the plot and saved a little on their effects budget. Seeing two guys blast each other around is only interesting for so long. Basically it was an action movie, with magic. The main character, Caleb, was very likable. They are all rich kids in this little New England town, but despite driving a BMW and having "The Power", Caleb is a pretty responsible guy. He takes care of his family. He's not cocky and arrogant, and he didn't get the girl by throwing money or magic around. He's obviously completely fictional, since he's both rich and powerful and not a complete asshole.

So as "magical" movies go, I liked it much better than The Craft, but less than Practical Magic. I can see an interesting prequel and possibly sequel coming from this movie. There's a lot of back story they hint at regarding the founding of the Covenant which would be interesting for a prequel set in the 1600's. Also at the end of the movie, we are not entirely certain what happened to the villian, which always makes for a good sequel. I hate sequels where we ended the first movie with the villian definitely dead, and they somehow come back. I think it's why I don't care for the Nightmare on Elm Street movies or really any from that genre. Anyway, I digress, onto the second movie.

We also watched Crank, with Jason Statham. This was a great action movie; very fast paced, with both funny scenes and gory moments of violence. Statham's character, Chev Chelios, is hit with a needle full of an obscure and deadly Chinese drug that causes your heart to stop by blocking your adrenal receptors, or something like that. (it's explained better in the movie, I just can't remember the exact details myself) This is retribution for killing a prominent Chinese gang leader, Don Kim, several days before. He goes after the man who shot him up with this stuff, a low level gang flunky named Ricky Verona. Throughout the movie, Chev has to come up with ways to keep his heart pumping or he'll die. He does drugs, picks fights, raids an ER crash cart for ephenephrine, steals cars, and sticks his hand in a waffle iron. I also enjoyed Chev's girlfriend, Eve, played by Amy Smart. You may remember Amy from Road Trip, or as Tasty Coma Wife from Scrubs. She is clueless that her boyfriend is involved in organized crime for most of the movie, and it's really funny when she finds out.

Substituting movie quotes for a real post

Memorable Quotes from PCU (1994)

Katy: What about Naugahyde Windpipe?
Cecilia: Too metal.
Raji: Oedipus and the Mama's Boys.
Cecilia: Too college radio.
Deeje: My Johnson Is 12 Inches Long.
Cecilia: Interesting, but I don't think it's a band name.

Droz: Yes! That's the beauty of college these days, Tommy! You can major in Game Boy if you know how to bullshit.

Droz: Ok, now it's true, the majority of students today are so cravenly PC, they wouldn't know a good time if it was sitting on their face, but there's one thing that will always unite us and them. They're young. They may not realize it yet. They've got the same raging hormones, the same self-destructive desire to get boldly trashed and wildly out of control. Look out that window! That's not a protest! That is cry for help! They're begging us...
[shouts]
Droz: Please have a party! Feed us drinks!
[Continues shouting]
Droz: Get us laid! Aahhhhhh!

Jock #1: [at a party] What's up, babes?
Womynist #1: Pack up your rape culture and take a hike!
Jock #1: [holds up a beer] You want a brewdog?
Womynist #1: We're not interested in your penis!
Womynist #2: Wait, wait, I think he's offering us a beer. [turns to jock, speaks slowly]
Womynist #2: Um... Yes. We, would like, a beer.
Jock #1: Okay! [turns around to get a beer]
Womynist #1: So it's like, if you're nice to them, they *bring* you things?
Womynist #2: Exactly.

I love this movie, and I don't think I own it, and I think that I need to own it. I also love Jeremy Piven, and I think that the face that Smokin' Aces is coming out on my birthday Friday is a present from him to me.

I did not do yoga this morning, as I was up til 11:30 playing my dranei paladin.

Sweat

I am dripping with sweat, but I feel good. I just did my Veena and Neena Slim Down workout for the first time in months. I've done other exercise on and off, like Yoga and Pilates, but I have only done the Slim Down tape once since last spring. I got through all of it without stopping;, I think the belly dance workshop I attended at Pagan Pride Day in Erie this summer really helped. My form is better now, and I'm not flailing about so much.

I plan to start doing my Yoga and Pilates DVDs again soon, but I fell on some ice last week. I'm ok, but I've got a big bruise on my left knee that makes rolling around on the floor a bit uncomfortable. Hopefully I can get up early tomorrow and do workout one of my Louise Solomon DVD, as it's all stuff lying on your back so it won't hurt my knee. I need to work on getting my flexibility back, I'm not looking forward to trying to do this:

any time too soon!
Merry Part and Blessed Be, readers!
